Different from traditional macro photography, this lens works by positioning less than an inch away from the subject, capturing materials, objects, and living things that our smartphones alone aren't capable of seeing. This macro lens from Moment captures life-sized images of the absolute smallest of objects, and delves deep into the layers and rich textures of these objects like you never could have imagined. Still, the Pixel 7 Pro takes the best photos of any Android phone we’ve tested, and you don’t have to tinker with settings to get these stunning snapshots. The lens mounted to my Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, and with the diffuser hood attached (Image credit: Beth Nicholls) Moment Macro Lens: Key Features You don’t have as many options in the camera app as on Samsung phones-Google’s software outputs only 12.5-megapixel binned photos and doesn’t offer a full-resolution mode on the 50-megapixel primary lens, whereas the software on most other phones provides the option to switch to full resolution. Even if you need to zoom past 4x, the Pixel 7 Pro retains detail in the processed image surprisingly well. Nevertheless, the 5x optical zoom on the Pixel 7 Pro, paired with Google’s image processing, produces great results. Samsung offers a similar camera setup on the Galaxy S23 Ultra, though that phone features a more powerful 10x zoom. The Google Pixel 7 Pro has three camera lenses on the back compared with the Pixel 7’s two: In addition to the same 50-megapixel primary camera and 12-megapixel ultrawide camera as on the Pixel 7, it sports a 48-megapixel 5x “periscope” zoom lens to capture more distant subjects. Phones should use high-quality components such as aluminum, ceramic, and Gorilla Glass, and the devices shouldn’t bend or creak under stress. A phone that is poorly constructed or made with subpar materials could break before you even finish paying it off through a carrier.
